| It is highly
recommended for longer engine life that you change your
antifreeze at least every two years. The antifreeze has
additives that help combat corrosion inside the engine
and over time these ingredients will break down. As
antifreeze breaks down, it can even become corrosive.
This is especially important to the aluminum parts of the
engine such as the heads and the radiator. Also as the
coolant flows through the engine, a slight electrical
charge, known as electrolysis, occurs that will eat away
at the metal inside the engine and radiator. Frequent
antifreeze replacement is recommended to minimize the
risk of corrosion in engines with aluminum parts and
aluminum radiators. A good 50/50 solution of antifreeze
and water is usually sufficient for most conditions. |
